Install and connect
WP Provider Translate is a WordPress plugin; in your plugin list it is called Translate by WP Provider. You install it like any other plugin. When you activate it, a setup of three steps opens: Connect, Choose languages and See it on your site. The account you connect to is where your plan lives; the connection lets your site send new text to be translated. Nothing leaves your site before you click Connect.
Install the plugin
There are two ways to install it. Both give you the same plugin.
From the WordPress plugin directory
This way works once the plugin is listed in the WordPress plugin directory. If the search does not find it, upload the zip file instead.
- In WordPress, go to Plugins → Add New.
- Search for Translate by WP Provider.
- Click Install Now, then Activate.
By uploading the zip file
- In WordPress, go to Plugins → Add New and click Upload Plugin.
- Choose the plugin’s zip file (
translate-by-wp-provider.zip) and click Install Now. - Click Activate Plugin.
The three setup steps
After you activate the plugin, WP Provider Translate → Settings opens by itself. Until the setup is done it shows these three steps instead of every setting.
1. Connect
The video above was recorded before the login changed. From 0:41 to 0:57 it shows a login link where you now type a login code. The steps below are the current ones.
-
Under Connect this site, click Connect. You go to the WP Provider Translate website.
-
If you are not logged in yet, enter your email address under Email address and click Continue. If the address is new, your account is made as you log in. You don’t need a password and you don’t enter payment details. If you are logged in already, go on with step 4.
-
The page now says Check your email. We email you a login code of six digits. Type it under Login code and click Log in. You stay in the same tab. The code works once, for 60 minutes.
The email also has a link, Log in to WP Provider Translate: opened in the browser you started in, it logs you in at once, and anywhere else it first shows a Log in button. If you set a password for your account earlier, you can click Log in with a password instead. If the page says Enter your password after Continue, this browser logged in with a password before: enter your password, or click Email me a login code instead.
-
If you are asked to accept the terms, tick I accept the terms of use and the privacy policy and click Continue.
-
Choose the account the site belongs to, or A new account named and give it a name, and click Connect site. A new account starts with a free trial of the smallest plan.
-
You’re back in WordPress, at the second step.
2. Choose languages
Under Which languages do you want?, choose one or more languages and click Save and start translating. Translation starts at once. More about the list is in choose your languages.
3. See it on your site
Your home page is translated first. For each language you see how far it is, such as Translating the home page: 40%, and the screen updates itself every few seconds. When a language says Home page translated, click Visit your site in … to look at it.
The same step tells you where visitors find the language switcher: a button at the bottom of every page, which you can move or put in a menu later. Click Done to go to WP Provider Translate → Pages, where the other pages appear as they are translated. From then on the settings page shows all settings: see settings and your plan.
Good to know
- Nothing changes before the setup. Until you have connected and chosen a language, the plugin adds nothing to your site’s pages: no language switcher and no styles. Visitors see your site exactly as before.
- Not connected yet? A notice on the Plugins and Dashboard screens says Translate by WP Provider is installed. Connect the site to start translating it. Set up takes you to the first step. Dismiss hides the notice for you for good.
- The setup opens by itself once. It does not open when you activate several plugins at the same time. Go to WP Provider Translate → Settings, or click Settings under Translate by WP Provider in the plugin list.
- A site that already has languages skips the setup and shows the full settings page.
- Staging and local copies: connect the copy the same way. It uses the same account, and text the site already had translated is not charged again.
- Updates appear in Dashboard → Updates and on the Plugins screen like any other plugin’s, with the changelog under “View details”. Each download is checked before it’s installed.
- Deactivating the plugin keeps everything. Deleting it removes everything it stored on your site and disconnects it; your translations stay with your account, so connecting again later brings them back without using your plan.
Troubleshooting
- The plugin is not in the search results. It is not listed in the WordPress plugin directory yet. Upload the zip file instead.
- “Could not verify your site.” WP Provider Translate checks that the request really came from your site, so your site must be reachable from the internet. A site that is only on your own computer can’t be connected.
- “Site already connected.” The site belongs to another account. Ask someone in that account to invite you, or to disconnect the site first.
- “This connection attempt expired.” Click Connect again; each attempt is valid for a short time.
- The login email doesn’t arrive. It can take a few minutes. Look in your spam folder, and check the address shown on the Check your email page. To get a new email, click Send the email again, then use the code from the newest email. If it still doesn’t arrive, write to support@wpptranslate.com.
- “That code is not right.” Check the newest email from us and type its six digits again.
- “This code no longer works.” A code works once and for 60 minutes, and it stops after five wrong tries. Click Send the email again to get a new code.
- “We did not send another email.” At most five login emails go to one address in an hour. Use the most recent email, or try again in an hour.
- A language stays at “Starting…”. Give it a few minutes; the screen updates itself. If nothing changes, see how translation runs.
For developers
wp plugin update translate-by-wp-providerupdates it like any other plugin.- Activating with WP-CLI or network-activating does not open the setup; open WP Provider Translate → Settings yourself.
